Shrub Trimming or pruning is essential to keep the Shrub and Ornament Trees' size, shape, and healthy.
Trimming also allows for the shrub to get more flowers and better foliage. Removing branches on the shrub's base will allow more sunlight exposure, and selectively trimming off diseased, dead, or dying branches will help the shrubs grow stronger and healthier.
When you maintain the shrubs pruned yearly, they will get healthier every year, and you are going to renew their life every time you prune.

Why Prune?
Prune your flowering shrubs to:
- Help maintain the plant’s shape and size.
- Encourage flowering
- Thin out old, woody stems
- Discourage pests
- Rejuvenate old, overgrown shrubs
The old woody stems will dominate and suppress vigorous, healthy new growth if left un-pruned.
When to Prune?
- n late February or March, before spring growth begins, prune flowering shrubs that bloomed late in the previous spring or summer. Examples: butterfly bush, beautyberry, oakleaf hydrangea, P.G. hydrangea, rose of Sharon, and the hybrid tea rose.
- In late spring or early summer, prune spring flowering shrubs right after flowering before new buds are set. Examples: andromeda, climbing and shrub roses, flowering quince, forsythia, lilac, mock orange, rhododendron, viburnum.
- Do not prune after mid-August; otherwise, new growth, susceptible to winter damage, might be stimulated.
The old woody stems will dominate and suppress vigorous, healthy new growth if left un-pruned.
